Results: Grafeldur 08-894 was bought in 2013 when it was decided to buy a ram with special pelt qualities for AI. When breeding for pelt qualities five wool characteristics are evaluated:

1) Color, 2) Lock quality, 3) Fleece density, 4) Luster and 5) Fiber qualities.

Those qualities are easy to breed for because they have high heritability but it’s right to mention that first generation progenies will not be outstanding in pelt qualities unless Grafeldur is bred to ewes which are outstanding according to those qualities mentioned. In lamb evaluations at Bakkakot farms during the recent years Grafeldur‘s progenies have been above average in all mentioned qualities except fleece density were they have been at average.

He is very young but has already shown very good leader abilities as well as being very calm and well awake concerning his surroundings. Description: Geri is moorit, spotted. He is big and gracious with good horns and coarse body as expected from a leader sheep. He’s very calm and has very good leader characteristics. Geri broke both his front legs but was very easy to handle during his hospital visit which shows how sensible and calm he is. Geri is a distant relative to other AI leader rams at Southram during recent years (Ari 91-969 is a great-great grandsire).

Color inheritance: Geri’s color indicates that his offspring can be of any color.

Geri.jpg

Golsi 09-916

Description: Golsi is moorit badgerface, horned, beginning his second year as an AI ram. He‘s five years old and therefore becoming experienced as an leader ram. Golsi is tall and lightbodied as leader sheep are supposed to. He is curious with a brave looking face and fast movements as well as intelligent and royal behaviour. He is gentle and eager to please people when coming to handling and driving. Golsi shows lot of intelligence in many aspects, but whether he’s good in predicting bad weather is hard to tell because all sheep are housed now a days. His ancestors were extremely sensible concerning weather changes so it’s likely that Golsi has those abilities.

Golsi’s badgerface pattern was formerly very common amongst leader sheep in Iceland.  Golsi carries moorit, badgerface and spotted.

Joakim 08-863

Joakim has most of the advantages that a good leader requires. He is black spotted with good horn curving. Joakim is calm and very well awake concerning his surroundings. He is also very easy to handle. His daughters are big with obvious leader abilities. Joakim is rather little related to other AI leader rams except Leifur 02-900, which is his double great grandfather.

Joakim.jpg

Karl Philip 05-827

Description: Karl Philip is horned and moorit spotted. He is very calm and sensible with obvious leader abilities. He is also very easy to handle but demands the royal dignity his name indicates. Karl Philip is of a very well known leader bloodline from Klifshagi farm though he is rather little related to other AI leader rams. Generations back in his bloodline Skumur 01-885 can be found as well as Blesi 98-884 and Formann 80- 961. Those rams were well known AI leader rams.

Color inheritance: Karl Philip carries variation of colors and patterns.

Karl Philip.jpg

Kjartan 16-860

Kjartan is peaty (mossy), rather angular, large, tall and noble as a leading ram. He is especially observant and keeps a close eye on everything around him. He is exemplary in his dealings and stands still when taken in a corner. Kjartan has deep-rooted clans of leadersheep from many farms in Norður-Þingeyjarsýsla and is therefore a good option for the maintenance of the unique qualities that are the leadership nature and leadersheep of the country. He is rather distantly related to the former leading rams of the stations; in his family tree are Póstur 07-828 (FFF), Geri 03-986 (FMMF) and Biskup 96-822 (MFMF). His sire is Strumpur 14-815.

Color inheritance: From Kjartan, all colors are possible, depending on maternal lineage.

Loftur 04-970

Loftur.jpg

Nikulás 15-977

Nicholas is black eagle-headed, stocky, horned. He is tall and respectable and holds his head high and has a watchful eye on everything that goes on around him. He has shown unequivocal leadersheep qualities in the home and is quiet and calm in his dealings, but still careful and not caring much for a pat on the back, unless he is treated correctly and he knows his "master". He is related to Geri 03-986 (FFFF), Móblesi 89-921 (MMF), Bishop 96-822 (MFFF), and Prestur 94-823 (MFMF).

Color inheritance: From Nikulás, all colors are possible, depending on maternal lineage.

Strumpur 14-915

Description: Spotted fine-angled with a good angular shape. The burgundy color is very dark, the tog is fine and soft. Strumpur clearly bears all the hallmarks of leadersheep and is alert to his surroundings and knows exactly what is expected of him. He stands still if you take a corner and knows where he should go if he is in business. Strumpur was chosen as the most beautiful leading ram in Þistilfjörður in the autumn of 2017. Strumpur is distantly related to leading rams that have found their way to the insemination centers; the first such rams in his family tree are Póstur 07-828 (FFF), then Geri 03-986 (FMMF) and Biskup (MFMF).

Color inheritance: From Strunpur all colors are possible, depending on maternal lineage.

Tigull 04-939

Description: Tigull is horned and black spotted with white socks. He is very calm and easy. His eyes are sharp and he's eager to learn. Easily controlled.  Son of Blesi 98-884.

Tigull.jpg

Torfi 17-816

Description: Turf is moorit badger, fine-horned and has a conformation that characterizes good and proper leadersheep. His behavioral pattern bears the rare characteristics of leadersheep that can be expected, but it will be nowhere known in the world except in this country. The nature of leading a group of sheep can be clearly seen in the behavior of Torfa. He is an extremely observant, well alert and sweet ram in all dealings. Golsi 09-916 is his FMF.

Color inheritance: From Torfi, all colors are possible, depending on maternal lineage.

Ungi 11-938

Description: Ungi is black spotted, horned. He comes from a well known leadersheep breeding in Northeast of Iceland carrying well known leader abilities.  He will be used for AI for preservation of those abilities which are quite unique for The Icelandic Sheep. Son of Blesi 98-884.

Color inheritance: All colors and patterns can be expected on Ungi's progeny depending on the mother.
